The import of cement into the Iraqi Kurdistan region is prohibited.
According to IRNA, the Ministry of Finance of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region in a statement banned the import of any cement to the Iraqi Kurdistan region. The import of cement into Iraq has long been banned due to internal self-sufficiency, and recently, with the implementation of the law on harmonization of regulations in all Iraqi crossings, the Iraqi Kurdistan region was included. In this regard, the Ministry of Finance of the Iraqi Kurdistan Region issued a circular to the border gates banning the import of any type of cement to the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.
According to the order issued from the beginning of May 2019, the import of any type of ordinary cement and reinforced concrete will be prohibited. Despite domestic production in the Iraqi Kurdistan region, experts in the region lack the ability to produce high-strength cement, according to experts. According to unofficial statistics, the volume of trade between the Iraqi Kurdistan region and Iran is between 3 and 6 billion dollars annually.
